The choir section of the music festival took place on Saturday 12th November and we entered two classes.
We will be holding our second workshop on Saturday 24th September 2011, 2pm to 4pm.
Once again this will be led by Catherine Hamilton who is an excellent teacher and well known professional soprano. Not to be missed!
“Thank you so much for a wonderful concert evening we had at St Edward’s Church on Saturday. The feedback we have had from the audience has been excellent; everyone enjoyed the beautiful and varied pieces the choir sang, and having Tricia as a special guest was a real bonus.” – St Edward’s Church.
We had a really enjoyable evening on 9th July at Shaugh Prior. The concert went with a swing. The cakes were very good as well!
A couple of week-ends ago Sarah, one of our sopranos, took part in the Plymouth sponsored fun run in aid of Cancer Research UK – and here’s the proof.
The extra lung capacity as a result of all this exercise will no doubt make it easier to reach that F sharp at the begining of Canon in D!
Last Christmas BBC Radio Devon celebrated ten years of the weekly Sunday Service with a programme from Plymouth Methodist Central Hall which was broadcast on Christmas day. Our choir was asked to take part in the programme along with three other local choirs. The recording was made in the run up to Christmas and it was really interesting to be part of that event. The “congregation” and choirs all sang the carols and each choir sang a piece on their own. We sang I Saw Three Ships, which was written by our accompanist Elizabeth. This is a lively interpretation of the traditional carol in a nautical style.
In 2009 our choir entered the Plymouth Music Festival and we were pleased with the adjudicator’s remarks, the resulting marks awarded and the cup we received. We entered again in 2010 and improved on our marks gaining a Distinction and retained the cup.
The choir recently voted to enter the Festival again in 2011 – so watch this space!
In February 2011 we held a very succesful singing workshop led by Catherine Hamilton, who is a well known professional soprano. Catherine is an excellent teacher and the workshop was enjoyed by all. We intend to hold two further workshops in 2011 to build on the work done so far. More details will be posted when available.
For many years we have held our end of term Christmas concert at this venue in Tor Lane, Plymouth. We will as usual be supporting a local charity – this year the concert is on 17th December and we are supporting Devon Air Ambulance. Please put this date in your diaries and come along for some great entertainment and join us in singing some well know Christmas carols. Following the concert mince pies and mulled wine will be available, even more reason to come!
This is the venue we use for our weekly practice sessions and the church is raising money to refurbish the kitchen and develop a cafe and drop in centre. We will be singing from our Christmas programme and it is sure to be a relaxed and enjoyable evening.
